Fertilization in general
Maize is one of the most important crops for farming. The crop area increased massively over the last years. One reason for the growth is justified by the production of biogas and the biogas industry. But not only for biogas, cattle (incl. milk production) and pig farming is requesting a high level of quality and quantity for corn silage.
For optimized yield and quality, a sufficient supply with nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium and several micro-nutrients will be mandatory. Quality paramters like energy content, starch or digestibility can be influenced positively.
Due to the increased crop area, sustainability is getting more and more important. That means a reduced surplus of nitrogen and the best utilization of phosphorus. Besides an optimized fertilization, high and reliable yields will help to reduce surpluses, e.g. nitrogen.In case of unfavourable weather conditions, Herbosol® with 0,4 l/ha can be applied in combination with pre-emerge hebricides to avoid shifting of ai’s into the root zone.
Foliar fertilization in maize
The advantage of nutrients with foliar fertilizer will have a huge advantage. Not depending on weather or the soil, the application via the leaves will be most efficient and fast. Nutrients will be available at the right time for the plant.
Due to weather situation – cold, dry, soil moisture – plants can suffer at early growth stages. This may lead already in BBCH 6-8 to a yield reduction.
Blue purple colored leaves are indicating an undersupply of phosphorus. Necrotic leaves with whitenings can be the reason for herbicide treatments and cold temperatures.
Macro – and micronutrients
The liquid fertilizer Lebosol®-Magphos or Lebosol®-PK-Max are tailermade for the early growth stage to resolve growth-stagnation of the young plants for optimum yield and quality. For efficient supply, single nutrient products with boron, zinc or manganese can be applied. But also our crop specific developed fertilizer Lebosol®-MaisSpezial SC – a combination of all important nutrients - would be suitable. In praxis, these liquid fertilizers can be combined with herbicide treatments in BBCH 6-8. A tank mix with fungicides should be also feasible.
Advantage of amino acids against herbicide stress
The plant growth is normally stimulated by phytohormons, proteins and their amino acids. If herbicide applications with sulphonylureas will cause plant stress, we recommend the application of Aminosol®.
Aminosol® will help the plant to overcome stress after herbicide application and to metabolise herbicide active substances.
