Foliar fertilization in maize

The maize cultivation has developed itself in the last decades into one of the most important field cultures in Germany. The need of silo maize grows on account of the increasing use as a fermentation gas substrate, but also the cattle and pig feeding puts high demands for the quantity and quality of the fruit in the form of silo, grains, and CCM maize. A conformist fertilization on demand supplies not only the best presuppositions for a productive harvest, but also qualitative characteristic features like energy salary,
starch content and digestibility can be  affected by the aimed supply of nutrients like nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium as well as trace nutrients. The subject lastingness plays with the fertilization design of corn an important role. Nitrate and phosphate losses are to be avoided, instead a high nutrient need should be answered with high nutrient availability at the correct moment.

Foliar fertilization in maize

The supply of main nutrients and micronutrients over the leaf offers the advantage, that the nutrients are available at the correct time at the correct place immediately.

Growth depressions on account of cold weather or stress situations on account of dry or stagnant water cause profit losses already in 6 - 8-sheet stage. Blue mauve colored leaves show a phosphorus lack in  maize, whip formation and necrotic  leaf  tops with whitenings are often the reaction to herbicide measures in connection with cool temperatures.

Macronutrients and trace nutrients (Boron, zinc, manganese and MaisSpezial)

Liquid fertilizers like Lebosol®-Magphos or Lebosol®-PK-Max are suitable to the recovery of growth-stagnation. The foliar application offers a solution for a lack of nutrient availability.  In the early youth stage of the corn the cob formation and the corn yield is already promoted by a sufficient care with boron, zinc and manganese.  The aimed application of single nutrients like boron, zinc or with our product specially developed as a maize fertilizer Lebosol®-MaisSpezial SC is recommended. The foliar fertilizers in maize are applied as a solo measure or from 6 – 8-sheet stage combined with the herbicide measure.  A tank mixture of the foliar fertilizers with new maize  fungicides against helmithosporium and fusarium is also possible.

Amino acids as a key function with herbicide stress

Herbicide measures, particularly with sulphonylureas , cause often stress in maize.. The cell growth and the cell division are adjusted by phytohormons, which are formed out of proteins, namely amino acids. To support the plant in stressful situations to the decontamination and compensation of the active substances of herbicides, we recommend the immediate application of amino acids in form of  Aminosol® immediately with the herbicide.

With unfavorable weather situations the application of soil herbicides also leads to stress (rain after application). Here the addition of 0,4 l/ ha Herbosol®  can prevent, that the active substance is shifted too quickly.
