Foliar fertilization in fruit production

The foliar fertilization is used with already visible deficiency symptoms (e.g., with manganese, iron, magnesium etc), but also with latent (not visible) lacks.

The foliar analysis has proved itself as an aid to recognize a latent nutrient lack.


Nutrient availability

Even if the soil is supplied optimally with nutrients, a need-based care of the fruit-tree with major, secondary- and trace elements is not always safed. Many factors limit the availability and admission from the soil, e.g., high pH values with trace elements and low pH values with major- and secondary elements, aridity, cold weather, soil compressions and / or waterlogging, competition of greenings and antagonisms (reciprocal effects) between the elements (e.g. too much potassium limits the availability and admission of magnesium and calcium.

Special nutrient demands of stone-fruit

Compared to the pip fruit, the stone fruit is less demanding. Elements like nitrogen (for the achievement of a high yield), potassium and phosphor (for an optimal fruit quality), the creation of a positive potassium-calcium-relation for solid fruits and a balanced supply with zinc, iron and manganese plays an important role with the stone-fruit.

Yield stabilization

The nutrition with amino acids in combination with the auxin effect of certain amino acids is particularly important for fruit setting and flower bud quality. With a repeated application of Aminosol® from blossom, fruit setting and fruit growth are improved and the “red pits” is reduced. In addition, Aminosol® reduces plum pox affective leaf and fruit symptoms  in plums.

Iron chloroses

Particularly cherries are lightly  predisposed to iron chloroses. Iron deficiency appears by yellowness of the youngest leaves with dark veins. Near culture-technical measures (soil structure, hydrologic balance, greenings, pH value etc) and the supply of iron fertilizers via soil at the beginning of vegetation, there also exists the possibility to improve the foliar iron supply. Here the early and regular foliar fertilization with Lebosol®-Eisen-Citrat GOLD puts things right. Lebosol®-Eisen-Citrat GOLD is a particularly compatible foliar fertilizer which  contains manganese and also iron. There is often a manganese and  iron deficiency, therefore, this combination presents itself as a foliar fertilizer. To improve the distribution of  iron on and in the leaf, amino acids are contained in the product, too.

Fruit firmness and storability

Low calcium contents in the fruit mean bad fruit quality and a drecreasing firmness of the fruit pulp. Treatments with Lebosol ®-Calcium (calcium chloride) or Lebosol®-Calcium-Forte SC (calcium formiat as a particularly compatible calcium source) raise the calcium content in the fruit and thereby improve the firmness and, first of all, the storability. Lebosol®-Calcium-Forte SC provides an additional care with manganese and zinc.


Post-harvest treatment

Boron plays a decisive role for blossom and fruit setting. Zinc for the development at the beginning and for the leaf quality. Boron and zinc must be already available before the blossom. However, in this period no admission via soil takes place, the tree subsist from its nutrient reserves. As a foliar fertilization before the blossom of stone-fruits is not possible because of the absence of leaf masses, here the second harvest treatment with Lebosol®-Bor and Lebosol®-Zink 700 SC is recommended.
This can be combined with urea sprayings. In addition, the nutrition with amino acids after the harvest promotes the storage of reserve materials and the recovery, so that the autumn treatment with Aminosol® presents itself.
