Foliar fertilization in strawberries

In strawberries the foliar fertilization is well established since many years. Unfortunately, the foliar application is often used too late if the undersupply with nutrients becomes visible (e.g. for manganese, iron, boron, magnesium). 

The better approach would be a preventive application before symptoms will occur. Besides the visible symptoms, the latend (not visible) deficincy with nutrients will reduce yield and quality as well.  The leave analysis can help to identify the level of nutrition.

 

Availability of nutrients

Many parameters in the soil can limit the availability of nutrients – high pH-values can block micro-nutrients, low pH-values can block macro-nutrients. But also dry and cold weather conditions, soil texture and some nutrient antagonism (e.g. oversupply with potassium vs. magnesium and calcium) can lead to a deficiency of nutrients.

Specific nutrient demands of strawberries – iron chloroses

Strawberries are susceptible and sensitive to iron chlorosesIron deficiency symptoms are yellowness of the youngest leaves and dark leave veins. Lebosol®-Eisen-Citrat GOLD as iron and manganese foliar fertilizer can be used from the very beginning for best nutrition and plant growth. Lebosol®-Eisen-Citrat GOLD will solve the deficience of both nutrients with one product. In addition, the product is containing amino acids for the adjuvant effect to improve the distribution of iron on and in the leaves.

Flowering, fruit set and optimized yield

The micro- nutrients boron and zinc are essential for the fruit setting. For optimized yield and quality our products Lebosol®-Robustus SC (boron + calcium) and Lebosol® Zinc 700 SC can be applied either before the flowering, after the harvest or with new planting in autumn. In addition, a sufficient boron supply can reduce the appearance of deformed fruits.

Shelf life of strawberries

Lebosol®-Calcium-Forte SC, free of chloride, will improve the calcium concentration in the fruit and enhance quality and shelf life. Besides that, Lebosol®-Calcium-Forte SC is containing the micro nutrients manganese and zinc as well.



Planting new strawberry fields

The young plants will need an optimal growth from planting to vegetation stop beginning of winter. The flower buds and yield potential will be established already in autumn. Therefore an optimized growth in autumn will be necessary.

For stress reduction and a better root growth and development, plants can be treated with amino acids and the product Aminosol®

  • The small plants can be diped in a 1% Aminosol®-solution for at least 15 minutes before planting
  • or to irrigate the plants after planting with a 1% Aminosol®-

The foliar application with phosphorus (phosphorus acid) will enhance the general resistance against diseases (Phytopthora) and crop vitality.  Our product Lebosol®-Kalium-Plus can be applied via sprayer directly after planting or via irrigation. During spring season Lebosol®-Kalium-Plus can be applied as a foliar fertilizer as well.
