Potassium (K)
What is potassium important for?
Symptoms of potassium deficiency
Potassium deficiency is shown by necrosis on the apex of the leaf and the leaf-edges, in particular on the oldest leaves. In cereals the resistance to lodging and against diseases decrease. The red colour of fruits gets less intense.
Whereby potassium deficiency is enhanced?
- Acidic soil (low pH value)
- Sandy or light soil (leaching)
- Dryness
- Heavy rain (leaching) or excessive irrigation
- Heavy, potassium-fixing clay soil
- Soil with a low potassium reserve
- Soil with a high magnesium content
