Foliar fertilisation for Christmas trees

Optimum nutrient supply for better quality and yield reliability

The quality of Christmas trees is largely determined by their growth habit, the colouring of the needles and the characteristic scent of the needles. These characteristics are decisive for the achievable market price. Targeted foliar fertilisation is essential to optimise the appearance of the trees.

Soil analyses, which record the concentrations of phosphorus (P), potassium (K), magnesium (Mg) and the pH value, provide valuable information on the nutrient content and availability in the soil. In addition, needle analyses, which are carried out during dormancy from November to the end of March, provide important information about the current nutrient status of all elements in the plants. As a latent nutrient deficiency is often not immediately visible, needle analyses are an indispensable tool for optimising the nutrient supply.

If the analyses reveal a deficiency, this can be specifically remedied during the coming vegetation period through foliar fertilisation. This ensures that Christmas trees develop their full quality and achieve the highest market value.

Immersion treatment for strong young Christmas tree plants

How does Avitar® support the growth of young Christmas trees?

To optimise the starting conditions for young Christmas tree plants, we recommend dipping with Avitar® before planting. This measure promotes the development of compact and resilient plants by minimising ‘transplant shock’ and supporting growth. The dipping treatment efficiently supplies the roots with important nutrients, resulting in faster and healthier growth.

A two per cent mixture of water with Avitar® ensures that the treatment runs optimally and that the young plants receive the best possible care.

More effective herbicide spraying for healthy Christmas trees

How does Herbosol® improve weed control in Christmas tree cultivation?

Young Christmas trees often have difficulty suppressing weeds as they grow faster. Effective weed control is therefore essential to ensure the optimal development of the trees. This is where Herbosol® comes into play as an additive to soil herbicides.

Herbosol® increases the effectiveness of herbicides by reducing the proportion of fine droplets and thus ensuring an even distribution of the herbicides. At the same time, the active ingredients are prevented from leaching into deeper soil layers, which supports long-term weed control and improves tolerance for young trees.

Phosphorus and potassium fertilisation for high-quality Christmas trees

Targeted nutrient supply with Lebosol®-PK-Max

Phosphorus and potassium are crucial for the healthy development of Christmas trees. Phosphorus supports the plants' energy supply, while potassium promotes water absorption and stress resistance. A balanced supply of these nutrients contributes significantly to the quality and resilience of the trees.

The ideal period for foliar fertilisation is between mid-May and mid-September. With Lebosol®-PK-Max, the nutrient supply can be specifically controlled to create optimum growth conditions and sustainably improve the quality of the Christmas trees.

Magnesium supply for optimum needle quality in Christmas trees

Timely fertilisation ensures strong colouring of the needles

Christmas trees need magnesium to build up chlorophyll and ensure intensive colouring of the needles. A deficiency becomes apparent during the growing season when the older needles turn yellow. A timely supply of magnesium is therefore crucial.

The use of Lebosol®-Magnesium 400 SC is recommended to cover the magnesium requirements of the crops at an early stage. A dosage of 2 – 3 applications at 3 – 5 l/ha ensures that the needles are sufficiently supplied and colour up strongly.

Important trace elements for healthy Christmas trees

Effectively prevent copper and manganese deficiency

Copper (Cu) and manganese (Mn) are among the most important trace elements in Christmas tree cultivation, but can often cause problems. Copper and manganese are strongly bound to organic substances in the soil and are therefore not very mobile. A copper or manganese deficiency leads to poor nitrogen utilisation and weak cell walls, which increases susceptibility to pests and fungal attack. This impairs photosynthesis and weakens the trees.

To counteract these deficiency symptoms, we recommend the use of VITALoSol® GOLD SC. A dosage of 2 – 4 applications with 4 – 6 l/ha ensures better vitalisation, strengthens the resistance and increases the winter hardiness of the Christmas trees.

Strengthening the plants with Lebosol®-Silicon -

Effective stress management and better root growth

Lebosol®-Silicon promotes the strengthening of trees against drought stress and increases general stress tolerance. The special formulation enables effective absorption via the needles, making the plants more resistant to adverse environmental conditions.

In addition, Lebosol®-Silicon supports root growth, resulting in better nutrient uptake and more stable plant growth. By applying 1 – 3 times 0.5 – 1 litre/ha during the growth phase, the stress resistance of Christmas trees can be significantly increased.
